Healthy Flooring Network is a new alliance of individuals and
organisations concerned about health, asthma and allergies.
The network aims to raise awareness of the links between fitted
carpets, PVC flooring and health and to encourage and promote alternatives.

The two most popular choices for flooring in the
UK, fitted carpets and PVC/vinyl, have the most
potential to damage our health.

Fitted Carpets. Fitted carpets
harbour dust
which leads to a build of of dust mite allergen,
and pet allergens, both important triggers for
asthma and other allergies.[See

Dust also absorbs toxic pollutants from the
indoor and outdoor environments.
PVC flooring. PVC is a major
source of toxic
substances in the environment.Substances in
PVC have been linked with various health
effects, including allergic diseases.

recommended as the alternative to fitted
carpets.A variety of healthy, PVC-free
alternatives are available, including wooden
floors, linoleum, and cork, which can be
